Dear Mrs. Nabel,
Dear Mr. Robertson,
Dear Madam or Sir,
I am also writing to urge you to end funding for the studies conducted by Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) experimenter Eliot Spindel. It is a shame for your institute!!
Using millions in tax dollars, this Mr. Spindel implants nicotine pumps into the backs of pregnant monkeys (!!!), delivering daily doses of the addictive substance to the mothers so that he can cut their babies out at various stages of development and dissect their lungs. These cruel experiments have a devastating effect on the animals, and the money that is used for this torture could be put to much better use in other anti-smoking efforts.
Since 1992, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has given Spindel at least $7.6 million of our tax dollars to conduct nicotine experiments. I urge you to cut off Spindel's funding, and redirect it into useful efforts to help people stop smoking and to prevent young people from ever starting. This horror has to stop!!
Yours sincerely,
