Stop Torturing Birds for Your Profits at Butterball

Dear Madam or Sir of Butterball and the Turkey Federation,

Undercover investigations have repeatedly shown how horribly birds are abused in slaughterhouses in the United States. Most recently, an investigation at a your Butterball plant documented workers who sadistically abused birds by punching and kicking them, slamming them against concrete walls, and even worse.

This abuse wouldn't of course have occurred if the U.S. Department of Agriculture protected birds in its enforcement of the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act (HMSA)--yet for no scientific reason, it refuses to do so. It also wouldn't have occurred if you guys at Butterball and other companies were not such unscrupulous and would not do anything for your profits! I cannot understand at all how you can sleep well at night!

Please use your position to help put an end to this abuse by ensuring that birds are protected in the future in your plants. And maybe in the future you will be so ethically responsible that you only sell vegan products instead of animal corpses.

Sincerely,

Dear xxx,

We are extremely concerned about any claims of mistreatment of turkeys in our Ozark, AR plant.  These allegations are completely contrary to our company's practices and policies regarding the humane treatment of animals. We follow the USDA-approved practices for the humane treatment of animals, use stringent testing methods to ensure that our practices are consistently in place, and we do not tolerate the mistreatment of animals by any employee.

We take these matters very seriously, and we are working with the USDA to look into the matter and find out what the facts are.  If we find any violations of our policies by any employee, he or she will be terminated.

Sincerely,

ConAgra Foods Consumer Affairs
