His Excellency
Oscar Arias Sanchez
The President of Costa Rica
Casa Presidencial
San José, Costa Rica
Dear Excellency,
Please stop the project of a tuna farm in the Golfo Dulce immediately! As citizens of the world and as friends of the earth, I am very much concerned with the well being of our planet and their inhabitants (fauna as well as flora). Therefore I support the herewith mentioned NGO organisations and their cause:
Please protect the unique ecological system of the Golfo Dulce. A tuna farm there would have a grave environmental impact with terrible consequences for the nature as well as for the native population, who would loose their income from fishing and tourism. Last but not least, Costa Rica would loose as well its unique reputation as an environmentally conscious country. My urgent plea is to:
- stop the tuna farm project immediately,
- save this extreme sensitive area from destruction. Many
endangered species live and reproduce there, e.g. dolphins, whales,
sea turtles, and many others,
- exert your power to keep the nesting places of the endangered sea
turtles undisturbed,
- protect the habitat of the humpback whale,
- avoid that small dolphins, sea turtles and sharks get caught and
die in the tuna nets,
- maintain the life supporting income of the fisherman in the Golfo
Dulce,
- keep the Golfo Dulce a rewarding resort for the ecological
tourism,
- employ your utmost influence and say NO to any further projects
that only serve the greed of a few people but result in the
destruction of the life and soul of a whole region and its
inhabitants,
Your Excellency, by the establishment of this tuna farm, Costa Rica would lose its unique reputation as an environmentally conscious country. It is in your power to save this extremely sensitive area from destruction and to maintain the reputation of your country. I ask you respectfully to stop the project for the benefit of the rare and endangered animals that we try to save from extinction.
Thank you very much. Yours faithfully,
