Dear Madams and Sirs of Zodiac Pet,

Documents found online show that your company is responsible for cruel tests on dogs. The tests call for dogs to be caged separately in cement cells, which are furnished only with a small square of carpet covered in cows' blood. The carpet entices the unsuspecting dogs to stay in the only remotely comfortable place in the cage, but it is embedded with hungry fleas.

Half the dogs in the study are not given any kind of treatment for the many flea bites that they are forced to suffer. These dogs live covered in fleas and flea bites. The other half of the dogs are given a flea treatment made by Zodiac Pet, but they are still kept alone in cement cells and tormented by fleas for months. In other Zodiac-related experiments, puppies and other dogs are killed after being fed flea treatments well above the recommended dose.

PETA contacted your company and offered scientists' expertise and time in order to help you develop modern, humane test methods for flea treatments such as cell-based and synthetic skin models. As far as I know, PETA has received no response from executives at your company.

Please meet with PETA scientists, develop modern methods to replace the current flea-treatment tests that cause so much suffering, and submit the new tests to the Environmental Protection Agency for approval.

Sincerely,
